Terms & Conditions
Last Updated: 20 June 2025
Effective Date: 20 June 2025
These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Escapement website and the repair and restoration services we provide. By submitting an enquiry, leaving a watch for service, or using this website, you agree to these terms. Please read them before proceeding.
1. Definitions
- "We / Us / Our / Escapement" — the watchmaking workshop operating at 88/3 Nimmanhaemin Road, Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand.
- "You / User / Customer" — any person who contacts us, submits an enquiry via this website, or leaves a watch for service.
- "Service" — any watch repair, regulation, cleaning, or rebuild work carried out by Escapement.
- "Agreement" — the scope of work agreed between you and Escapement before work begins, confirmed in writing or verbally.
- "Piece / Watch" — the timepiece you leave in our care.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By using this website or leaving a watch with us for service, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into an agreement. If you are acting on behalf of another person, you confirm you have their authority to do so.
Use of this website constitutes acceptance of these terms. If you do not agree, please do not proceed.
3. Services Provided
Escapement provides the following repair and restoration services:
- Battery & Seal Refresh (฿3,600) — quartz movements, cell replacement, gasket inspection, water-resistance bench test
- Automatic Regulation & Cleaning (฿11,500) — self-winding movements, full disassembly, re-lubrication, multi-position timing adjustment
- Heritage Piece Rebuild (฿33,500) — older and inherited watches, full rebuild, hand-finishing, case and dial care, written rebuild record
Services are performed at our Chiang Mai workshop. We do not currently offer postal or courier servicing. Geographic availability is limited to pieces that can be delivered to and collected from our workshop in person.
4. Service Scope and Agreement
4.1 Assessment
We provide an initial assessment at no charge. This involves inspecting the piece, describing our findings to you, and outlining the available options. No work begins until you have agreed the scope in writing or verbally.
4.2 Scope changes
If during the work we discover something that would require action beyond the agreed scope, we will contact you before proceeding. No additional work is carried out without your approval. The cost will not change without a prior conversation.
4.3 Work we decline
We may decline a job if we determine it falls outside our capabilities — for example, some proprietary or highly specialised calibres. We will inform you of this at or after assessment rather than accept work we cannot complete satisfactorily.
5. Timelines
Estimated turnaround times are provided in good faith:
- Battery & Seal Refresh: approximately 2–4 working days
- Automatic Regulation & Cleaning: approximately 10–16 working days
- Heritage Piece Rebuild: approximately 4–8 weeks
These are estimates, not fixed commitments. If circumstances cause a significant delay, we will notify you. We do not accept liability for losses arising from delays beyond our reasonable control.
6. Payment Terms
6.1 Pricing
All prices are quoted and payable in Thai Baht (THB). The applicable rate is the one agreed prior to work commencing. We accept cash and bank transfer. Specific accepted payment methods are confirmed at the workshop.
6.2 Payment timing
Payment is due upon collection of the watch. We reserve the right to retain the piece until the agreed service fee has been settled in full.
6.3 Cancellation and refunds
If you decide not to proceed after an assessment but before any work has begun, no charge applies. If work has already commenced and you wish to cancel, a partial charge reflecting work completed to that point may apply. We will discuss this with you fairly and in plain terms.
Completed work is not refundable once the watch has been collected, unless a fault is directly attributable to our workmanship and is identified within 60 days of collection.
7. Care of Your Watch
We take reasonable care of all pieces in our workshop. Watches are stored securely and handled only by workshop staff. We are not an insurance provider; we recommend checking whether your personal insurance policy covers items at a repair workshop. We accept liability only for loss or damage that is directly caused by our negligence.
For pieces of significant financial or sentimental value, we encourage you to declare this at the time of drop-off so we can note it in the job record.
8. Intellectual Property
All content on this website — including text, images, and design — is the property of Escapement or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use any part of this website for commercial purposes without our prior written permission.
The written bench records and rebuild documents we provide relate to your watch and are yours to keep. We may retain copies internally for our records.
9. Disclaimers
Watch servicing involves working with mechanical components that may have pre-existing wear or damage not visible at assessment. While we take reasonable care and document our findings, we cannot warrant that all pre-existing faults will be identified before work begins or that all defects can be resolved.
We do not make specific promises about timing performance after service, beyond what our bench records indicate at the time of completion. All figures are measurements, not ongoing commitments.
This website is provided for informational purposes. Nothing on it constitutes professional advice.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Thai law, Escapement's liability to you for any claim arising from a service is limited to the amount you paid for that specific service. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special losses, including loss of use or sentimental value.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death, personal injury, or fraud caused by our negligence.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Escapement against any claim, loss, or expense arising from your breach of these terms, your misrepresentation of ownership of a watch left with us, or your violation of applicable law.
12. Termination
Either party may withdraw from an agreed service before work has commenced with reasonable notice. If we withdraw after commencement, we will return the piece to you in the condition it was when work stopped and not charge for incomplete work. If you withdraw after work has commenced, clause 6.3 applies.
13. Dispute Resolution
These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand. If a dispute arises, we ask that you contact us first to discuss it informally — most matters can be resolved through a direct conversation. If informal resolution is not possible, disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Chiang Mai province, Thailand.
Consumers in Thailand also have the right to contact the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) for assistance.
14. General Provisions
- Entire agreement: These terms, together with any written scope agreement, constitute the full agreement between us regarding the relevant service.
- Severability: If any provision is found invalid, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
- Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of our right to do so in future.
- Assignment: You may not assign your rights under these terms without our consent. We may assign ours to a successor business.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use of this website or our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
